PORTLAND-STYLE #4 CREEL BY E.P.  PETERS This creel was made in Portland, Oregon, by E.P. Peters, probably during the 1920s.  The creel is signed with the Peters stamp and the number 4, as shown.  Characteristics of Peters’ work include the long latch strap and the buckle with the rounded tongue.  Beyond that, the Peters creels are all unique—there were no common models.  Relatively few of the Peters creels survive.  This one is 14” wide.  It comes with a shoulder strap or “harness” that is well-made and could have been original to the creel.  Condition is about good, with the hanging strap missing, and the latch strap attachment repaired. Chatham and McClain discuss Peters creels in their excellent book The Art of the Creel, p. 96-101.
