I purchased these so that I could apply a thin, even coating of a flavor enhancer to a prescription diet food for my 18 year old cat. He has advanced chronic kidney disease but refuses to eat most kidney diets (I’ve tried many, wet and dry, including home made). He only tolerates the ProPlan dry kibble kidney diet. He doesn’t love it, but he will eventually (reluctantly) eat it.To make it more palatable, I sprinkle a little freeze dried chicken (Stella & Chewy’s Marie’s Magical Dinner Dust) over the kibble. He loves the smell and taste of the chicken sprinkles and I can shake a little evenly over his food without adding too much protein that can harm his kidneys. These little shakers are perfect for this. I’m sure they’d be lovely for grated cheese or seasonings as well. Maybe also for use in the home or garden for shaking out powdered fertilizers, etc.I haven’t seen any rust and the shakers clean up nicely. The hole size is sufficient so that most of the chicken particles get through, although a few get stuck – the particles aren’t really powder or dust, more like the consistency of grated cheese. The plastic cap on top is perfect for preserving freshness and keeping out moisture and unwanted “critters”, although I’m not sure how long the plastic will last over time.
