Description This Cedar Bluebird Nesting Box is our top selling bird house, and for good reason. Designed with proper ventilation and drainage to provide a safe habitat, the front of the house also opens up for easy removal of old nesting materials (tools not necessary). All major joints are screwed together (rather than stapled or nailed). Fasteners are yellow zinc plated or galvanized, so no rusting occurs. Built to exact specifications for Eastern Bluebirds, it will also accommodate Tree Swallows, Chickadees and House Wrens. The inside of the box may be a little rough, it’s supposed to be. The birds will not mind this. The entry hole features a predator guard, a simple block of cedar placed over the hole so that Raccoons cannot reach in. **We recommend adding a copper hole protector as pictured in the photo (not included in basic price of 34.95), to prevent chewing or other deterioration of the entrance hole ~ your $4.50 insurance policy! We will install this for you before shipping, just ask. Your Cedar Bluebird Nesting Box should be placed on a metal pole or post 4 – 6 ft. off the ground. Placing any nesting box on a fence or a tree invites predation. *We carry the perfect and inexpensive 6′ metal pole that comes with a flange for mounting the box and is easy to tap into the ground. We also recommend cleaning out after each brood of birds. Simply open up the front of the box, hose out or use a brush with a very light bleach solution (1 tblsp to a quart of water), let it dry and you’re back in business.
